Summary
David can knock down open 3pt shots off the catch or the dribble; he uses straight-line drives to keep defenders off balance due to his efficient finishing ability in the lane. He is a switchable defender where he uses his strong frame and active hands to contain both post and perimeter players. He must improve his quickness and athleticism because he won't be able to overpower players at the next level. He also needs to improve his decision-making on drives and passes, where he may end up with unnecessary offensive fouls or turnovers.

Notes
Vs. Mississippi State – Dallas, TX – 12/11/2021
Finished well in and around the lane, as he found open pockets within the defense several times, leading to quick drop offs from his teammates. While undersized he used a series of pump-fakes/shot-fakes to get the much bigger Miss. State front line in the air. He also ran the floor in transition, regularly beating his defender down the court. He also showed good footwork on the block spinning baseline once for a nice reverse layup. Defensively, he used his physical size and length to be a disruptor on the interior challenging and altering shot, as well as securing seven rebounds. His turnovers were a cause for concern, as he accounted for five of his teams fifteen, making several careless outlet passes and picking up an offensive foul as is barreled over a defender in the lane.

David Roddy is, by the numbers, the most versatile wing defender in this class. Roddy is unique in many ways, highlighted by his unusual defensive profile. He is the single best guard defender of the wings in this class. He switches very well and has the size and strength to defend bigs inside.

This data was hand-tracked by AJ Wahl and Bryon Cook. Every single defensive possesion of each player's season was analyzed. This dataset includes all possessions when the defender is guarding on-ball, in man-to-man, and against a player not within their position group who shoots the ball, is fouled, or commits a turnover. The percentile listed above is a players standing compared to their postion group calculated by compliling and weighing various different metrics derrived from the hand-tracked data. This data only measures a portion of a player's impact, but it is clear that the ability to defend out of one's position group is a vital skill to contributing to winning basketball at the professional level.
