Summary

Jake has a good feel for the game, which he puts on full display when making cuts to open spots on the floor and passing from the mid and low post. He also is a good shooter from the 3pt line shooting 37.1% for his career. He must improve his ability to score in the lane with his left hand; he also must work on his lateral quickness as he struggles to get shifty ball handlers in front of him on the perimeter.

Notes

At Georgia Tech – Atlanta, Ga – 1/19/2022

Moved well off the ball making several timely cuts getting behind the defense for dunks at the rim, show the ability to push and create for himself off the dribble and displayed a good touch around the rim. Pick up ten assists this game, creating off the bounce drawing defender and dropping off for easy shot attempts. He was a little loose with the ball getting picked clean twice and making several careless passes.

Offers

LaRavia is the second most versatile defender in this draft class. He defends out of position a majority of the time, and forces the opposing player to be extremely inefficient. His only weakness by these defensive metrics is his propensity to foul.

This data was hand-tracked by AJ Wahl and Bryon Cook. Every single defensive possesion of each player's season was analyzed. This dataset includes all possessions when the defender is guarding on-ball, in man-to-man, and against a player not within their position group who shoots the ball, is fouled, or commits a turnover. The percentile listed above is a players standing compared to their postion group calculated by compliling and weighing various different metrics derrived from the hand-tracked data. This data only measures a portion of a player's impact, but it is clear that the ability to defend out of one's position group is a vital skill to contributing to winning basketball at the professional level.
