Holmes took a leap this past season showing the ability to rim run in transition and finish at the basket, put pressure on the defense by drawing fouls off of drives and post-ups, and showcase his improved shooting not only in the mid-range, but beyond the arc as well. His shot creation in the low post and ability to finish plays as a roller in the PnR gave him an advantage against many opponents matched on him. He displayed the ability to alter/block shots at the rim while also containing the ball handler in the PnR, preventing them from consistently turning the corner to create plays going downhill. Holmes weaknesses include lack of touch around the rim and questionable decision making off the dribble. At times he can get careless with the ball especially when seeing multiple defenders commit to him in the low post. Whenever seeing two or three bodies, he struggles to make the right reads and those possessions end up in TOs more than one would like. As a defender, Holmes get be undisciplined sometimes, falling for fakes and picking up careless fouls, which can lead to him getting benched and not getting a rhythm.
