Strengths
Elite hands as a on ball defender with the ability to apply pressure and cut off ballhandlers with his lateral quickness.
Speed with the ball and athleticism make him very affective in transition, finishing around the rim and creating for others.
Can be a spark plug with high energy plays.
Crafty finisher around the rim, uses both hands well and shows good touch on floater and layups.
Strong at attacking downhill and loves to put pressure on the defense pushing the ball in transition.
Good at controlling pace and staying calm when pressured.
Keeps his dribble and gets to his spot to either play make or score.

Weaknesses
Inconsistent offensively and can disappear in the offensive at times.
3pt shooting is inconsistent. Struggles as a three-point shooter off the dribble and in catch and shoot opportunities.
Lack of strength can result in getting overpowered near the rim defending the drives.
Can tend to settle for tough contested jumpers or force drives in crowed lanes.
Ball security can be loose at times, throwing jump passes and tend to just do too much when it’s not needed.

Summary
Eric Gaines is a 6’2 athletic guard that can finish around the rim in a variety of ways, he can handle ball pressure and control the pace of an offense and uses his hands well to cause problems on the defensive end. His speed and athleticism are what makes his game stand out. He is threat to score in transition using his speed and change of pace to push on break opportunities. His transition scoring is his best asset, other parts like scoring off the dribble and from beyond the arc is a struggle for him at moments. On the defensive end, his quickness laterally and hands makes his potential as a defender at the next level solid. With the development of a reliable jumper, Eric Gaines can be an asset to a contented team.
