Summary
Derek Lively is a 7’1 center who has terrific athleticism for his size. He has good lateral quickness, which helps him stay in front of opposing players. He is an elite and instinctual shot blocker due to his length and timing. Lively is a solid rebounder on both ends. What’s evolving for him is his perimeter and face-up game. He has shown tremendous improvement with his handle, passing, and shooting range/touch. He has a quick jab step and rip through move that will help him get to the basket or create separation for an elbow pull-up jumper. Lively runs the floor extremely well, always dedicated to being the first down the court looking for the ball. He is also a very good screener who rolls and finishes well at the rim. Lively needs to add more muscle and overall strength to his lower and upper body, as well as improve his footwork in the post so he can score more efficiently.

Catches lob dunk with two hands. Makes PnP 3 from the top of the key. Stayed vertical in the post used his length to block the shot without leaving his feet. Pangos All American – Las Vegas, NV – 6/6 – 6-8/2021
Makes 1 leg runner in the lane. Catches lob in transtion on the R side. PnR on the L wing, dunks at the rim, got off his feet quick. PnR dunk at the rim, showed great athleticism finishing over his defender. Good hands in transtion, catches whatever you throw to him. Runs the floor well, finishes above the rim. Shot the ball well from the 3pt line in trail and PnP action.
Peach Jam - Augusta, GA - 7/19 - 7/25/2021
Offensively, he rim-runs very well, consistently beating the defense down the court for easy dunks. He hits the offensive boards and has a quick 2nd jump, not allowing the defense time to react. He has vertical spacer potential if he plays with guys that look for him in PnR action. He also can step out and shoot the 3ball in PnP or trail action. Defensively, he is a very good shot-blocker both on the ball and as a help-side defender. He can also switch out on the perimeter and defend for a few dribbles. If he gets beat off the dribble, his length and athleticism allow him to recover at the rim. Areas of improvement would be, developing a go-to post move and becoming a more consistent shooter from the 3pt line.
