Feel for the game
Reliable outside shot
Form on jump shot is clean
Great in transition with or without the ball
Solid passer on the move
Prominent finisher around the rim, especially with his left (weak) hand
Lateral quickness + defensive potential
Lack of strength/gets caught in too many screens on defense
Out of control far too frequently
Forces bad shots
Too loose with the ball, gets stripped frequently
Handle needs improvement
Doesn’t look to score as much as he could
Julian Phillips is a 6’8 athletic and long wing who is a nightmare in transition with his elite speed and athletic ability. Phillips is far from a finished prospect; however, he shows flashes of 3 and D potential with a long frame, lateral quickness, defensive instincts, and an evolving outside shot. He finishes around the rim extremely well with both hands as well, so we would like to see Julian add more muscle in order to finish through contact more effectively during his college jump.
LakePoint- Emerson, GA, 8/15/20
Made a contested layup, drove from right side and scored and 1, made contested reverse layup, ran the floor and scored in transition, made layup out of post going toward left.
OTR Sweet 16 - Emerson, GA - 4/9-11/2021
Follows fast-break play and catches a rebound off the rim for an easy 1 hand put-back dunk. Gets out in transition and finishes a two-hand dunk. He made a catch and shoot corner in transition as well.
Pangos All American – Las Vegas, NV – 6/6 – 6-8/2021
Was active on the boards, snatching offensive rebounds and sprining back up for put-back dunks. Filled the lanes in transition, explosive in the open court. Has good defensive instincts, plays the passing lanes well and was vocal as well. Create his own shot off the dribble for a couple pull-up 3s.
