MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC - May 28-30
Suwannee, GA – D1spects and the Ga Stars presented the Annual Memorial Day Classic featuring some the top EYBL and Independent teams around the country.
17U
While NBA star Bradley Beal was working to keep the Washington Wizards playoff hopes alive his AAU team was down in Georgia hoisting the goal ball at the MDC Memorial Day classic in Suwanee, Georgia. Bradley Beal Elite went 5-0 this weekend, finished off with 55-46 win over Indy Heat (EYBL). Led by Brandon Miller, Jeremy Fears, and Robert Lewis inside doing the dirty work on the glass. Fears a cat quick pg, who knows how to score the basketball all over the floor. Miller’s length and size gives creates matchup problems for smaller wings and when he goes inside to score. Lewis attacked every rebound, using his length and scoring inside.
The Indy Heat was impressive on the way to the championship game, Tae Davis, CJ Gunn, and Fletcher Loyer , can absolutely find ways to score the ball. On the wings Davis and Gunn are very tough, Davis can absolutely play, athletic wing who knows how to use his length and kills that spot up wing and corner 3 ball. Gunn, one of the most athletic guys I saw this weekend. He can score on the bounce, and on the wings with drives and jumpers. Loyer, the Purdue commit can really shoot the ball.
The Georgia Stars had an impressive run this weekend, guard Dillon Hunter showed his ability to get everyone involved and score when needed. Robert Cowherd and Evan Hurst showed they are a terror from outside, I love the way Cowherd uses his body to get to the basket and create space. Hurst can shows he’s a knockdown shooter, with a knack for scoring. Forward Ezra Ausar is someone to watch keep an eye on, 6’8 physically loves to put his head down and use his size to get to the basket. He spent a year at IMG, and has improved his body and jumper.
16U
Great weekend for Bradley Beal Elite, as they were crowned 16U champion. One of the most talented teams in the 16U group was TSF 2023. Led by Isaiah Collier and Kanan Caryle, with Athletic Cade Phillips and 2 sport star LT Overton working on the box. One of the most impressive players I saw though was Ethan Davis. Collier is tough, showing the ability to score in stretches of the game with tough downhill drives to the basket, and mid-range jumpers, he also did a great job of getting his guys involved faning the ball to the wings for his shooters. I love his defensive play, taking guys out of their games, Collier reminds me of Gary Payton with his aggressive lock and key defense. Kanan Caryle can flat out score the basket and could be one of the best scorers in the country. He finds ways to score using the one or two dribble pull up with some sneaky athleticism. You are so worried about Caryle shooting the jumper that you forget he goes to the basket. Another lock and key guy. Love the way Cade Philips plays above the rim, rebounding the basketball and using his size to score. LT Overton is tough to stop in the post and rebounds the ball at a very high clip, he is tough to keep off the glass. Ethan Davis has an F-350 motor, his tank is never empty on either end, he goes to challenge shots on one end and uses his 6’5 frame to finish tough plays. He has the ability to knock down shots. That athleticism is high major. Ga Stars EYBL Isaiah West is a guard to keep a eye on love his ability to pick and choose the spots he is trying to score in, finds creases in the defense and wiggles in to score. Coen Carr is a versatile wing who uses his length to create space on jumpers and displays some major athletic ability. One of the most intriguing guys I saw was big man Keith Williams, he does a good job scoring inside, and showed he can step out and knocked down the free throw line extended jumper. What’s intriguing is I see potential once he learns to run the floor and really put his body on people in the post. Paul Djbot is a versatile wing on both ends, long arms, shooter, who can play D, rebound the basketball and start the break off the glass. He’s a wiry looking wing who can play the 2 or 3 because of his length and ability.
